Inertia is the scientific principle that an object will remain at constant velocity unless acted upon by an outside force. An immediate question comes up: constant velocity relative to what? Perhaps it is better to say: inertia is the resistance of objects against being accelerated. Acceleration can at least be viewed as absolute – you do not need a reference frame to know that you are being accelerated inside .
